The character of Odile is a true book lover. The story gets emotional at many places that can make a reader cry. This book is a treasure for bibliophiles that narrates how much books are important to readers. Her only escape from solitude is her neighbour, Odile, the books and French lessons.Īs Lily gets more involved with Odile, she uncovers more about the dark and hidden past of Odile which was untold for a long time. Everything changes overnight but they have to save the library.Ĭut to 1983, Lily a lonely teen-ager, living in a small town Montana wishes to escape this town as she is trying to cope up with the death of her mother. Nazi invade Paris and the war is declare but the director and Odile wish to defy the rules to ensure the readers get access to the books even during such trying times. This new job is a dream come true for her. Odile Souchet is a book lover and get a new job at American library in Paris in 1939.
